Mäd is a Human-Centered Design Consultancy. We design and build brands, products, and services for awesome businesses. We look beyond design to the technology, people, and processes that companies need to succeed.
We work as integrated cross functional teams in our client’s business. Our team members are empowered with responsibility and liberal decision making, and given the best possible tools, support, and structure to ensure that they can Make It Happen™.
User Interface Design (UI).
User Interface Design (or UI Design for short) is the visual style and layout of the various elements that make up what a user can see on a screen at a given moment. This can be anything from a website, a mobile app, the screen of an ATM, or a complex medical device.
The goal of a User interface is not only aesthetic, but also functional. It must be created with all the key use cases in mind, and avoid the typical clutter than one often expects.
User Experience Design (UX).
User-centered design is an iterative process whereby you take an understanding of the users, and their context, as a starting point for all design and development.
“No product is an island. A product is more than the product. It is a cohesive, integrated set of experiences. Think through all of the stages of a product or service – from initial intentions through final reflections, from first usage to help, service, and maintenance. Make them all work together seamlessly.”
— Don Norman, inventor of the term “User Experience”
User Experience Design, or UX for short, is the process used at the forefront of the customer journey. It involves the design of the entire product such as branding, design, function and usability.
UX covers a vast array of areas, with our UX designers devoting themselves to the entirety of the product. We view the UX as a story that begins even before the target market picks up their device.
Corporate Identity Design.
Our approach to creating memorable corporate identities that make our clients reach market leading positions.
Branding is an extremely complex and nuanced topic. Many companies make the mistake of thinking that branding is purely a visual exercise: a logo placed on the office wall, a new set of stationary, a tagline, and perhaps a company statement that’s framed up on the wall.
However, branding is about setting a philosophy. A framework for how you operate that extends to all facets of your business including, but not limited to, the visual framework.
A brand is an identifiable company or product. This word comes from the use of a branding iron in cattle ranching, and as the cattle moved across the grassland, it was easy to determine which cattle belonged to which owner.
The best way to frame a brand is this:
It’s why your company exists, and the qualities that you are known for.
So while this will include a visual identity and a name, it’s actually far more than that.
It’s a modus operandi.

Design Sprints are co-creation workshops that we use at Mäd to help us and our clients create effective solutions to business problems in record time.
Design Sprints originate from Google's ventures capital arm called Google Ventures, that invests in a variety of startups across the world. However, they found that in the companies that they invested in, getting consensus and moving fast was often a problem. So, they started to iterate on different ways of working, and eventually came up with the Design Sprint framework.
The reason for doing Design Sprints is simple:
Design Sprints ensure that we build better products, faster.
While the original Google Ventures Design Sprint requires the entire team to participate for five full days, we've made some adjustments to the scheduling based on our client feedback.
The Mäd design sprint requires our clients to work with us for two full days, and the remaining three days are completed either in-house building the prototype or in the field testing it. We find that this gives the optimum balance between client participation and also ensuring that our clients can still manage their usual day to day job responsibilities.
Digital Marketing and Advertising.
Getting your brand in front of the right people, at the right time, is a surefire enabler for success.
Primarily, we focus on two main scopes: SMM (Social Media Marketing) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing).
Social Media Marketing (SMM) is a modern day must, and advertising rapidly fuels success.
Also, our team has a Google Ads verified expert available to craft intelligent campaigns to ensure your website, app, media, business information, or social pages are given full exposure when it matters.
At Mäd, we value informed decision making and offer a market research service to solidify the foundation of any project.
Understanding the market is incredibly advantageous. Undertaking market research will vastly improve decision making and is the starting block for any well executed strategy. Quite simply, it allows a business to understand the value of their product or service in alignment with potential customers and competitors. Whilst we advocate primary market research as fundamental, secondary market research offers a wealth of extra useable data.
Some of the best businesses and projects have been actualized on the back of huge risk, and risk itself need not be a dissuading factor from any project. However, we must acknowledge that contingency is key.
As illustrated in Seth Godin's 'The Dip', there is often a difficult period for projects to slog through before achieving mastery or indeed their KPIs for success. Unfortunately, many teams will abandon a project at the 'bad quitting point' due to a multitude of negative factors such as low morale, limited resources and lack of contingency planning.
Whilst we champion many skills and services, Mäd also offer a 'Project Rescue' service. Before quitting, potentially at the wrong time, we implore you to consider whether the project can viably be saved by bringing in new approaches, vendors, methodologies, and technologies.
Whether you're buying new software that will take your business efficiency to the next level, or looking to pick the perfect vendor for that next project, Mäd can help you make the process far more structured and efficient, while ensuring you have an accountable paper-trial that clearly shows why key decisions were made and how the different choices were evaluated.
Our wide array of skills, experience and professional services don't always fit neatly into categories. We welcome bespoke challenges.
